Sydney stabbing: Armed man halted by ‘brave’ bystanders
An armed person was detained in central Sydney after stabbing a girl and being arrested on the road by members of the general public, police say.
A second girl was found dead within an apartment building on precisely the exact same road but it’s uncertain if this is on the event.
Authorities said the man tried to execute additional stabbings and there have been”multiple crime scenes”.
Video footage reveals the defendant yelling”Allahu Akbar” and”take me”.
He jumps onto a vehicle using a knife as the other guy faces him with a wicker seat.
The episode unfolded at roughly 14:00 local time (04:00 GMT) on Tuesday near Clarence St and King St, a crowded place in the city center.
The injured girl was taken to hospital in a stable state. Authorities said there was no continuing threat.
Authorities said they were investigating whether the body found at the flat was connected into the episode.
The inspiration for the attack isn’t yet known, said Supt Gavin Wood of New South Wales Police.
“It might seem at this point it’s unprovoked, but we’re still keeping a very open mind as we proceed,” he explained.
Videos published on the web reveal a guy running through the streets brandishing a knifebefore individuals try to prevent him and finally tackle him into the floor.
Other pictures reveal the defendant being trapped with a seat along with a milk crate, then being removed by authorities.
Supt Wood praised people who had intervened at the”exceptionally dangerous and aggressive” scenario, saying their activities had helped catch the guy.
“They had been considerably brave individuals,” Supt Wood stated.
Authorities urged individuals to steer clear of the region. Authorities said they’d release more details as it became available.
